If the Thanksgiving holiday was a little stressful, and the upcoming holiday season has you feeling like you could punch the walls, consider the Nexersys iPower Trainer, which promises to deliver the adrenaline rush of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) sports training, the interactivity of modern videogaming, and the motivational boost of a personal trainer. For those asking for something more from their fitness equipment, the iPower Trainer provides a professional-grade answer.
The trainer was announced at the UFC 136 Fan Expo earlier this year, and is now ready to let users put it to the test. It can take a punch, a kick and a whole lot more. Additionally, a commercial edition will be available in January 2012 for hospitality businesses, commercial gyms, first responders and the military.
“We think the launch of the Nexersys is the most significant development in fitness equipment in the last 20 years – creating a new category in the personal training market through a 2-way communication, fully interactive experience,” said Nexersys CEO Terry Jones. “The trainer is incredibly easy to use, offers great instruction on form and technique, builds fitness at a pace that other equipment can’t match and is just a blast.” Read the rest of this entry »

A kick ass workout could involve actually “kicking ass,” or you could take part in some high intensity Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Interval Training. At last week’s UFC Fan Expo in Houston, Nexersys Corporation announced the launch of the Nexersys iPower Trainer in both consumer and commercial versions. These systems combine the intensity of combat sports training with a sophisticated electronic interface. The result is much like a fast-paced game with the motivation of a personal trainer.
The Nexersys iPower Trainer is designed to deliver a heart pounding workout through 4 minute technique, strike, core and cardio video training and Avatar sparring rounds. The system utilizes seven strike pads located in three strikes zones that represent the head, body and legs. Built-in accelerometers in each strike pad capture extensive data on each strike and send that data to the Nexersys computer where it is processed delivering individualized performance feedback to the user. And don’t worry this system will let you pack a punch and will still be there for more. (Video after the jump) Read the rest of this entry »

Want to train like a UFC fighter? It doesn’t need to be intimidating. THQ is releasing UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System, a fitness-oriented game due out this June. UFC, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is an organization that pits different style fighters against one another. Fitness routines and full programs are designed to challenge and motivate users looking to get in shape. That includes over 70 mixed martial arts (MMA) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)-approved exercises. Benefit from disciplines such as wrestling, kickboxing and Muay Thai. Each workout is designed to improve strength, endurance and conditioning through the routines. All 51 routines, along with nine exclusive bonus routines on the Kinect for Xbox 360 version, will be specialized to target specific muscle groups, and factor individual skill levels and fitness goals.
UFC Personal Trainer was designed by the NASM and support from MMA training experts Mark DellaGrotte, Greg Jackson and Javier Mendez, who have worked with UFC fighters.

- UFC Trainer will arrive for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii in January
There is no denying that anyone entering the cage to compete in mixed martial arts is ripped and probably works out a lot. And we mean a lot. Video games on the hand tend to work out a little and play games a lot. So what if you could somehow marry the two in a way? THQ is on it with a UFC-inspired fitness game for Microsoft Xbox Live Kinect, Sony PlayStation Move and the Nintendo Wii.
And in an interesting twist, unlike many other fitness games this one is actually going to be targeted primarily at men. UFC Trainer won’t actually make it in time for the holidays however, so gamers will have to find some other way to stay in shape this summer and fall, so we suggest turning off the console for a bit.
But from the official line from THQ’s executive VP of core gaming, it should be worth the wait. “We want this thing tuned to perfection without lag. And I’m not going to ship it until it’s the coolest fighting thing in the world.”
